Wednesday, November 29. 2006Update!
SLEEP: It's been a bit over a week of some haphazard sleeping patterns with the little dude. He used to sleep 7:30pm to 3:30am, snack, then go down again till around 6 or 7am. Now he's starting to wake a couple times. Bummer!
TO MOVE OR NOT TO MOVE: He's in a pack and play in our bedroom. Should we move him downstairs to his room and his crib there? I'm torn....I love having him close because a) it's easier for night feedings, b) i feel so connected with him when we spend the night together in the same room, c) i love his little sounds (well most of them)...but what if moving him now will make transition easier? what if moving him now helps him sleep more soundly? Mom says get a good crib (not the pack and play) and let him sleep in our room the first year... SITTING UP: He's sitting up! He's been doing it about a week now (tomorrow he's 21 wks). He still wobbles over a bit depending on the surface on which he is sitting, but he's doing great. EATING: Nope. Still just a boob man. Looks at glasses of fluid going to our mouths alot. Likes to hold a spoon. But no grabbing at things we eat. WEIGHT: He's over 18 lbs now. Woof. DISPOSITION: Gosh is he sweet! and mellow! and smiley! and well, we couldn't be more thrilled to spend our lives with him... OTHER: He's still so tenderly baby. He still pants and breathes spastically from time to time. He still talks quietly to himself before he falls asleep. Sometimes, he babbles to himself in the car too. He is chewing on everything and drooling alot - teeth here we come! Oh- he pet Pounce! that was just yesterday. Very exciting for all involved Many pix at www.flickr.com/photos/choyberg, as usual.... Dash had his 14th week doctor visit -- he's now 17 lb 11 oz, 25.5 inches, and OH SO SMILEY!! he's become quite "talkative" too, especially in the mornings. The doctor says his back muscles are strong, and he'll be sitting up on his own very soon. Also, you can see a bit of white in the gums where his teeth will start to make their appearance next month at the latest, we're guessing. He's still all breast all the time, though he did grab dad's dinner plate the other night. Wasn't interest in the food; just the plate!
Sleep update
Monday night Dad was gone on biz trip. Dash woke up a few times that night (as opposed to just waking at 5:15am'ish).
Tuesday night, Dad got home but after his bedtime. AGain with the wakeups. Wednesday Dash got a little better, just waking at 3am and again at 5'ish. He seems to be doing this 3am'ish wakeup for a few days now. We hope for the 5:30am wakeup only, and keep reminding ourselves to be grateful it's only a 3am wakeup and not multiple wakeups at night. I mean, he goes down about 8pm. So a 3am wakeup is 7 hours!! that's really really fantastic... Today, Ptr left for Shanghai for a week. Wish me luck Saturday, October 7. 2006Who's cuter?Tubby time :)
Up until last week, I'd bathe Dash by taking him into our mini clawfoot with me. But it's a mini. So there isn't all that much space for him to float around, and it's kinda ackward to deal.
So P convinced me that it was time Dash had a bath of his own. Enter the Euro PRIMO bath. Deluxe! Spacious! And afterwards, daddy wraps him up in towels on the bed... Saturday, September 30. 2006Mega Sleep!
Thursday night he slept 10 hours! (7pm to 5am, then snacked...then another few hours)
Friday night (last night) he slept 9 hours! (8pm to 5am, then snacked, then down till 7am, then i forced a little snack on him so i could then get up and pump). AMAZING little guy Peter's 3 day biz trip is over - hoorah - and Dash was awesome throughout. Phew! Tuesday, September 26. 2006he napped at daycare!!
I go back to work FT next week. So I've been gradually exposing Dash to daycare last week and this week. The big news is he finally napped there today! Phew!
last week, he went 2 hours Monday, 4 hours Tuesday, 6 hours Wednesday. No naps this week, he went 4 hours Monday, and then today 6 hours and VOILA! A NAP! Tuesday, September 19. 2006trip to iowa: getting thereSunday, September 17. 2006Other Dash updates
HEAD CONTROL: awesome! what a strong neck!
SITTING UP: almost! he certainly is giving it his best efforts to nudge himself upright when he can. TUMMY TIME: much better at it though we don't do it enough. he grunts and pushes himself along - his LEG STRENGTH is great. STANDING UP: see leg strength! CUTENESS: oh boy! he smiles at you, he laughs a little hiccup'y kind of laugh, as well as a "hmmph" kind of laugh where he sounds like he's checking to see if YOU think it's funny too...he's also loving looking up at us upside down from a lying down position. and his naked time in the mornings is as incredibly heart-stoppingly adorable too GRASPING: not quite yet. he does have a great grip on our fingers, but hasn't yet gotten his hands around other things. BATHING: he's too big for the infant bath, so he's in the big tub with mom. he gets bathed about 2x per week, but we're going to up that to every other night as of this week. once he starts daycare, it'll likely be every night. tonight, he seemed to like the bath alot more. i'm trying very slowly getting him in there and used to the temperature. i'd love to have him get used to it a bit warmer, cuz i think ONCE HE'S IN, he'd like it more. FUSSINESS: he's been a bit fussy the last couple days. could be all that travel. or could just be a growth spurt. or could be he's picking up on mommy's vibes of concern/anxiety as we get closer to him starting daycare... Sleep update
last night, dash went to bed at 8:15pm or so, and woke up every 2.5 to 2.75 hours all night long. yes, we let him fuss for a while before picking him up. yes, he went right back to sleep after 10 minutes of nursing. we only changed his diaper once too.
tonite? trying something different. making sure he doesn't really nap after 5pm. he nursed and had a 20 minute nap around 6:45-7pm. then he was awakened via burping, etc. kept awake till 8pm whereupon he nursed 10-15 minutes and passed out hard let's hope he stays down for a good 4 to 6 hours! Saturday, September 2. 2006Labor Day is for nesting...
It's labor day weekend and Peter and I are nesting
We started today by sleeping in with Dash - so sweet in the morning light... Then we took a walk with him in the stroller, up a big hill, then down to our local coffee shop for lattes and a section of the New York Times and a bagel. Theh home to shower, and head out to Target for diapers + wipes, and Teak Warehouse for some patio furniture so we can enjoy the weather and BBQ more. Then to Max's deli for reubens, then home so Peter could set up furniture and Dash & I could nap. Then out to nursery to pick up plants to plant tomorrow. Then home where PEter made pasta and salad, which we ate indoors and then sat out during the sunset enjoying the fine brisk weather. All of the above was interspersed with every other hour of breastfeeding for our little pumpkin, of course!!
